About Hope Couture

Welcome to Hope Couture my name is Emma Thomson. I am the designer maker of everything at Hope Couture, established in 2010.

I have been sewing and making for as long as I can remember and at a young age developed a passion for fashion history and beautiful fabrics. My career as a Costumier began when I was successful in gaining a place to study Costume production at Rose Bruford College of Dramatic Arts and graduated achieving a 2:1 BA Hons. Following this I pursued further experience and training in bridal wear and historical dress and have been designing and making as a Costumier for more than 15 years.

My background is making costume for the Theatre and Historical dress for Museums and re-enactment. My work has many historical influences, especially the Belle Epoque. I take great care and pride in my work and use many traditional techniques with most of my products being hand finished. I value artisan craftsmanship and where possible use locally sourced and produced materials. I am passionate about creating exquisite Couture Wedding, home and fashion accessories with vintage elegance and Scottish tartan flair.

I tried on plenty of Wedding dresses, but none lived up to the expectation of what I envisaged my ‘perfect wedding dress’ would look like. With that in mind I ended up buying a very plain dress which I regarded as a bit of a blank canvas, in the hope that I would be able to have it altered to fit the image I had in my head.
Emma made the process of altering the dress very simple and filled me with confidence that it could be done on our first meeting. Emma had created my ‘Perfect wedding Dress’. The service Emma provided was faultless and her work was to a very high standard. Her kind, sensitive, friendly approach made me feel very at ease during what could have been quite a stressful process.
